Dear Colleagues and Participants,
It is a great honour to welcome you to the 3rd European Meeting on Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology, to be held on 05–06 October 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal.
According to the European Commission, the transport sector alone accounts for nearly a quarter of the EU’s greenhouse-gas emissions and remains one of the few major sectors where emissions continue to rise. The European Environment Agency reports that renewable energy use in transport has grown from under 2% in 2005 to over 11% in 2024—a promising trajectory, yet still far from the ambition of the revised Renewable Energy Directive (RED III), which calls for a substantially higher share of renewables in transport by 2030.
As mobility demand expands rapidly worldwide, the need for renewable energy in transport becomes ever more urgent. Whether through electrification, sustainable bio- or synthetic fuels, hydrogen, or other green technologies, a global transition to clean mobility is essential: it reduces CO₂ emissions, improves air quality, enhances energy security, and supports equitable and sustainable development everywhere.
I warmly invite you to share your research, insights, and innovations from all corners of the globe. Together, we can shape a cleaner, fairer, and more sustainable future for mobility and energy.

Associate Professor, Riga Technical University
